Babayan quits post of Security Council Secretary of Nagorno-Karabakh

In protest against the signing of the peace agreement with Azerbaijan, Samvel Babayan has resigned from the post of Security Council Secretary of Nagorno-Karabakh and renounced the title of "Hero of Artsakh".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at midnight Moscow time on November 10, an agreement between Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh came into force. Last night, dozens of Yerevan residents, dissatisfied with the signing of the ceasefire agreement with Azerbaijan, broke into the building of the Armenian government and demanded Nikol Pashinyan's resignation.

On November 10, Samvel Babayan addressed his compatriots and stated that "Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) is the centre of the Armenian statehood and Armenians' symbol; and we were obliged to preserve the dignity of an Armenian."

"Today, when leaders of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) have unanimously cast doubt on Armenians' existence, and with one movement of their hands decided for us whether we should be or not, and then utter an unjustified lies about some fixed realities, the question arises: who has authorized you in a democratic country without people's consent, without consulting the bodies elected by them, to betray us?" Mr Babayan has stated in his appeal posted in his page on the Facebook social network.

He has stated that "in response and in protest against these criminal actions, I hereby renounce the highest title of the Hero of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and terminate my powers as Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)."
