Azerbaijan gives out bodies of dead soldiers to Armenia

The bodies of the killed military personnel have been transported through the humanitarian corridor in the direction of Gazakh-Tovuz, and two residents of Armenia have also been sent through Georgia, an assistant to the President of Azerbaijan reports today. Armenia has also announced its willingness to give out the bodies of the killed Azerbaijani soldiers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 27, Baku offered Armenia to exchange prisoners of war and expressed the Azerbaijan's willingness to hand over to Armenia the civilians who had failed to leave the combat zone. Besides, the Azerbaijani authorities proposed to unilaterally give out the bodies of the dead.

Today, while delivering his speech in the city of Terter, Azerbaijani presidential assistant Khikmet Gadjiev has stated that the Azerbaijani side has handed over to Armenia the bodies of "about 30 Armenian soldiers and officers left on the battlefield in the combat zone."

Two civilians have also been sent to Armenia via Georgia. An over-80-year-old man will go to Armenia later, as soon as his health allows. At present, the civilian stays under the supervision of doctors, Khikmet Gadjiev reports.

Today, Shushan Stepanyan, the press secretary for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia, has reported that the bodies of 29 Armenian military personnel killed during the hostilities in Karabakh were given out to the Armenian side. Shushan Stepanyan has also noted that one civilian was returned to Armenia with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The press secretary for the Armenian MoD did not report any information about another elderly person who had been sent to Armenia through Georgia.

"The Armenian side remains adhered to the agreements on the humanitarian truce and expresses its willingness to give out the bodies of the dead Azerbaijani military soldiers and officers to the Azerbaijani side," Shushan Stepanyan noted on her Facebook page.
