ECtHR demands to ensure safety of Armenian prisoners of war

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has obliged Azerbaijani authorities to ensure the right to life and health of the Armenian prisoners of war, Areg Sargsyan and Narek Amirdjanyan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the military servicemen, Areg Sargsyan and Narek Amirdjanyan were captured on September 27. On October 11, a group of lawyers applied, on behalf of the families of the prisoners of war, to the ECtHR asking to take immediate measures against Azerbaijan. The lawyers demanded to oblige Azerbaijani authorities to follow the norms of the international humanitarian law and, in accordance with the Moscow Agreements on the exchange of prisoners of war and casualties' remains under the auspices of the Red Cross, return the prisoners of war to Armenia. Besides, the lawyers demanded that measures be taken to protect lives and health of the prisoners of war.

He has added that another lawsuit and proofs of war crimes against the Armenian prisoners of war had been sent to the ECtHR.
