Nagorno-Karabakh evacuates several villages after shelling

After artillery attacks on Stepanakert, the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh have evacuated residents of several nearby villages; no evacuation is undertaken in Stepanakert, Grigory Martirosyan, a State Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 3, Armenian authorities reported about the shelling of Stepanakert. One civilian was killed and 11 others were wounded, the Karabakh Ombudsperson has informed.

After the city was shelled, Nagorno-Karabakh authorities decided not to evacuate Stepanakert townspeople, said State Minister (head of the government), Grigory Martirosyan, has stated. "I officially declare that Stepanakert is not evacuated. Yes, several villages, which are some kilometres from the contact line, have been evacuated, but there is no evacuation in Stepanakert," The RIA "Novosti" quotes the Minister as saying on October 2.

According to Nagorno-Karabakh authorities, the number of civilian casualties in the period from September 27 to October 2 was 11 persons; about 78 others were wounded. On October 2, the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan reported that 19 civilians perished and some 55 were wounded as a result of artillery shelling.
