Extortions in Chechen schools become all-Russian practice

Teachers are often independently solving the issues of classroom repairs and decoration, teachers of Grozny schools have commented on parents' complaints about extortions. Collecting money in Chechen schools continues the all-Russian trend, analysts believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that schoolchildren's parents in Grozny complained that they had to collect money for buying textbooks, notebooks, uniforms, and donate for the needs of educational establishments.

Teachers have to independently resolve the issues related to the repairs and decoration of their classrooms, said teachers from a number of schools in Grozny.

The forced and voluntary fundraising in Chechen schools is a nationwide trend, Ruslan Kutaev, the President of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, is sure. Meanwhile, he does not associate the voluntary-forced donations with the activities of the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation.

Tatiana Lokshina, Deputy Director of Human Rights Watch for Europe and Central Asia, also believes that "voluntary donations" in schools of Chechnya are part of an all-Russian trend.

"Schoolchildren's parents from many Russian regions complain in social networks about regular school extortions," she has added.
