Defendants' relatives worry about long investigation into unrest near Kullar

Men accused in a case on unrest near the village of Kullar are transferred to house arrest. Their relatives welcomed the above transfer. However, they still express their concern over the delay in the judicial investigation into the case.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 15, the court sent three defendants under house arrest in the case on the unrest in Kullar. Seven more men were taken into custody. On August 31, the defence achieved the cancellation of the arrests of two accused men. On September 16, the pre-trial restriction measure was replaced with house arrest for four defendants.

The protest action on June 15 in Kullar, where Azerbaijani citizens are waiting for departure to their homeland, escalated into clashes with law enforcers. Four law enforcers and 10 Azerbaijani citizens were injured; 83 protesters were arrested for 10 days.

Sakhib Imamaliev, a father of Emin Imamaliev, one of the defendants, said that his son did not commit anything illegal. "Emin was sleeping in his tent when they detained him. He did not try to escape, because he did nothing illegal. There is no single evidence against Emin."

"We are glad that there has been a positive turn in the case. The defendants have been in turn transferred to house arrest. However, unfortunately, the judicial investigation is being delayed. First, the investigation was extended until September 17, and now – until November 17," Sakhib Imamaliev reported.
