Journalist Asadli released from prison in Azerbaijan

In Azerbaijan, Ziya Asadli, a correspondent of the "Azadlyg" newspaper, recognized as a political prisoner, is back at large after serving his prison term for hooliganism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in September 2017, Ziya Asadli was sentenced to three years in jail. His defence appealed against the verdict. In April 2019, after he served half of his prison term, he applied for a conditional early relief (CER).

According to investigators, Asadli hit the tea-house administrator on the head with his mobile phone. He himself treated his criminal prosecution as law enforcers' revenge for his report about the protests of the residents of the Neftchala District of Azerbaijan.

Asadli was convicted despite his disability and two children, the "Massa.az" has noted.
