Emin Sagiev rejects doctors' help

The state of health of Emin Sagiev, who has been on a hunger strike in an Azerbaijani colony since August 18, has worsened, but he rejects medical care assistance and claims to go on with his protest action until he is released.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2018, the court sentenced Emin Sagiev to seven years in prison on charges of drug dealing. After the refusal of the Azerbaijani Supreme Court (SC) to satisfy the cassation appeal against the verdict, on August 18, 2020, Sagiev went on a hunger strike insisting on his innocence and demanding his release.

Aigyun Sagieva, Emin's wife, reported that on September 5, she spoke with him on the phone. According to her story, Emin Sagiev's health condition has worsened.

"He has serious health problems; his heart and kidney pains have strengthened. He is kept in the medical and sanitary unit of the colony under doctors' supervision. But, despite their persistent requests, he wouldn't stop his hunger strike and rejects medical care. He is on his hunger strike for the 19th day, but none of state bodies reacts to his demands and is interested in him," Ms Sagieva told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
