Yerevan reports negotiations with Russia on purchase of fighter aircrafts

Yerevan is negotiating with Russia to purchase Su-30SM fighters, reports David Tonoyan, Minister of Defence of Armenia.

The contract for the purchase of Su-30SM fighters was signed back in 2012, but it did not enter into force because of the financial difficulties faced by the customer.

In January 2019, Yerevan bought four Su-30M fighters. At present, the authorities of Armenia are negotiating with Russia to purchase another batch of fighter aircrafts, the TASS reports with reference to Armenian Defence Minister David Tonoyan.

David Tonoyan has also announced that Armenia is planning to establish private Armenian-Russian companies in the military-industrial complex.

The Armenian Minister of Defence also commented on the information concerning the deliveries of military cargoes by Russia. "The transportation is being carried out within the activities of the 102nd Russian military base. Russia does not transport any military cargoes for Armenia now. We do it ourselves," said David Tonoyan as quoted by the "Interfax".

Let us remind that earlier, during a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 12, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev has noted there is information about the intensive transportation of military cargoes to Armenia.
