Azerbaijani political prisoner Emin Shagiev starts hunger strike in colony

After the Supreme Court (SC) of Azerbaijan rejected the cassation appeal against his verdict, Emin Shagiev, a political prisoner, held in the colony, went on a hunger strike.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2018, Emin Shagiev (Sagiev), a relative of Tyurkel Azertyurk, a journalist of the "TuranTV" oppositional channel, was sentenced by the Baku Grave Crimes Court to seven years in prison on charges of drug dealing. Azertyurk believes that his relative is persecuted because of his journalistic activities in opposition media abroad.

Emin Shagiev (Sagiev), a political prisoner, who is kept in Colony No. 6, started his hunger strike, the "Turan" News Agency reported on August 20.

His relatives have explained that Emin went on a hunger strike on August 18, the agency has added.

Emin Shagiev announced his hunger strike after the Azerbaijani SC rejected his appeal against the verdict, the "Dosh" magazine reported on August 20.
