Social network users see no logic in fines for long wedding party processions in Chechnya

On August 17, in Chechnya, the local traffic police (known as GIBDD) announced that wedding party processions should consist of a maximum of four cars in the republic and that violators of the new requirement would face administrative fines.

Instagram users and local residents have questioned the relevancy of the new requirement.

"This simply means an introduction of a new technique of fining. Four cars will not be enough to transport all things and people ... I do not understand such a ban," wrote, in particular, user rabotnik_rzd. "All people will anyway gather at a wedding party itself. The fact that they are going somewhere in cars will not change anything much," user bekhan644_10 noted.

"I hope this ban will also be applied to Kadyrov's people as well, and not just to ordinary people," wrote user muhammad__06_07.

In Chechnya, during the pandemic, top-ranking officials still travel in corteges including dozens of cars, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told in June by Ruslan Kutaev, a resident of the republic, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations. "Not only Ramzan Kadyrov, but also people from among his associates allow themselves travelling with crazy-long corteges. They may do that, they are allowed, but others are not," Ruslan Kutaev stated.
