Wife of Krasnodar resident killed in SIZO doubts law enforcers' version

Dmitry Kraskovsky, a resident of Krasnodar, was detained and died after being beaten in a SIZO (pre-trial prison). According to investigators, inmates of the detainee beat him to death. A wife of the deceased detainee appealed to the "Committee against Torture" (CaT) and claimed her husband had been subjected to pressure.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that torture is regularly used in the Krasnodar Territory, and the law enforcement bodies use detention under an administrative article as a convenient tool.

On June 3, Dmitry Kraskovsky was detained on suspicion of manufacturing and selling drugs. On July 7, his body was found in a prison cell, and his face was disfigured.

"An investigator said that my husband was beaten on his head with a stick pulled out of the floor in the cell. In an attempt to hide the cause of death, they tried to hang him by staging a suicide," said Anna Kraskovskaya, the wife of the 37-year-old deceased detainee.

According to Sergey Romanov, the head of the Krasnodar branch of the "Committee against Torture", "the fact that no one heard anything arouses suspicion." "Firstly, Dmitry Kraskovsky was a big man, and some sounds of a fight should have been clearly heard. Secondly, warders were to inspect cells with a certain frequency," Sergey Romanov emphasized.
