Azerbaijani activist Tural Atakishiyev arrested for failure to obey to police order
The court found Tural Atakishiyev, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), guilty of failure to obey to a law enforcers' order and arrested him for 30 days. The activist is being prosecuted for political reasons, the PFPA suggests.
Tural Atakishiyev was detained on August 7 and released on other day after investigators questioned him in a case on the "Karabakh action," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Seimur Khazi, the deputy chairman of the PFPA.
At night on July 15, in Baku, a march in support of the Azerbaijani army was held, which ended in clashes with the police. After the action, 28 PFPA activists were arrested.
On August 11, Tural Atakishiyev was detained again, Seimur Khazi reported. He also added that more than 30 PFPA activists were arrested in connection with the action of July 15, and criminal proceedings were instituted against 18 of them.
Seimur Khazi believes that "Tural Atakishiyev was arrested within a repressive campaign against the PFPA." "Tural is active on social media and has recently written posts about defending the rights of arrested party members," the PFPA deputy chairman said.
Let us remind you that the human rights organization "Amnesty International" expressed its concern about the persecution of the opposition in Azerbaijan.
