Experts point to decline in coronavirus epidemic in Armenia
A decrease in the percentage of positive cases of the coronavirus infection to the number of daily tests indicates a stabilization of the situation with the COVID-19 epidemic, Armenian experts announce.
By July 30, in Armenia, the total number of people infected with COVID-19 reached 38,196. Although the population of Armenia is smaller compared to Azerbaijan and Georgia, the country still leads among the countries of Southern Caucasus in terms of the number of coronavirus-infected people per 100,000 residents. Over the entire period of the epidemic, 953 people died in Armenia, including 728 from COVID-19.
According to the statistics released by the Ministry for Public Health of Armenia, the number of active patients is steadily decreasing in the country.
Armenia has overcome the plateau of the epidemic, but it is too early to report about overcoming the crisis, the Armenian Ministry for Public Health noted.
David Melik-Nubaryan, an expert from the Yerevan State Medical University, believes that in general, it is possible to say that the Armenian health care system has coped with an increase in the number of coronavirus-infected patients. According to David Melik-Nubaryan, the extension of the state of emergency is justified.
Epidemiologist Ruben Ovannisyan believes that the decline in infection rates will continue until August. The expert suggests that the restrictive measures were effective to a certain extent. According the epidemiologist, apart from the above, the weather conditions in summer play an important role.
