Azerbaijan claims shelling of three border villages

During the last 24 hours, positions of the Azerbaijani Army were shelled for 40 times, including those stationed in villages on the border with Armenia, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has claimed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the situation on the border of the Tovuz District of Azerbaijan and the Tavush Region of Armenia escalated on July 12. The Azerbaijani side announced the death of 11 of its soldiers and one civilian, and wounding of four soldiers. Given the four killed and 20 wounded people on the Armenian side, the count of victims since the start of the aggravation on the border made 40 killed and wounded people.

"Within the last 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces, by using large-calibre machine guns and sniper rifles, violated the ceasefire for 40 times in various sections of the frontline," the Azerbaijani MoD said on its website today. The positions of the Azerbaijani Army deployed in the villages of Kokhanebi, Asrik Djyrdakhan in the Tovuz District, in the village of Zamanly and at nameless heights in the Gadabay District came under fire, the MoD has specified. The shelling was also conducted from the positions that Azerbaijan treats as its occupied ones, the MoD has added.

As of 9:00 a.m. Moscow time today, no comments on this statement appeared on the website of the MoDs of Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia.
