Makhachkala entrepreneurs treat Muftiate's claims to tourists as unjustified

Residents of other Russian regions coming to Dagestan had observed the decency rules well before the Muftiate called upon them to observe the dress code. This was stated by owners of recreation and public catering entities working with tourists.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Dagestani Muftiate, referring to local residents' complaints, called on the guests of the republic to respect local traditions by their behaviour and appearance.

Every year, the Makhachkala recreation centre is visited by many tourists from different regions, and non-observance of some dress code here bothers no one, said Rasul, the director of the centre.

He treats the Muftiate's guidelines as dangerous, since young people who "don't know much about culture and morality," but are ready to blindly follow the clergy's instructions, can commit acts that will damage the travel industry.

"We've just started accepting clients, including from other regions; therefore, no matter what the length of their skirts is; we need to earn money for our families. People have come here to rest; who cares if they don't bother anyone?" Aminat, the administrator of a Makhachkala restaurant, has asked.
