Investigation into Ramzan Kadyrov's business ignored in Chechnya

The investigation into the Ramzan Kadyrov's connections with big businesses did not cause any public outcry in Chechnya, since local residents have long been aware of the scheme of earnings for regional leaders, notes Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations. The authorities of Russia agree with such a role of the Chechen authorities, emphasizes human rights defender Svetlana Gannushkina.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the edition "Project" made public an investigation into assets worth hundreds of millions of US dollars, which the leader of Chechnya controlled through nominal owners. While receiving stakes in businesses, representatives of Chechnya helped partners in conflict situations and resolved "various issues" for their partners in the Kremlin.

According to Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, the above described scheme of "protecting business" by transferring stakes in them to influential partners was initially used in all regions of Northern Caucasus, but Chechnya was an exception at first.

"However, in the 2000s, everything changed: the new power began to act only in its own personal interests, protected its people, and took away businesses from others ... Then Chechnya began to apply such a scheme as well," explained Ruslan Kutaev.

The investigation of the edition "Project" did not arouse noticeable interest among residents of Chechnya, a Chechen historian confirms. According to him, the new practice is not in the principle of "patronizing" businesses, but only in the methods and scale of Ramzan Kadyrov's subordinates.
