In Armenia, Khachaturyan sisters accused of killing their father by prior conspiracy
The General Prosecutor's Office has approved the indictment against three Khachaturyan sisters. They are accused of killing their father by prior conspiracy. The case against the youngest of the sisters, who was recognized insane, will be considered separately, the TASS reports with reference to advocate Alexei Liptser.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Khachaturyan sisters from Moscow aged 17-19 were detained on suspicion of killing their father in July 2018. According to the defence, "the sisters had a choice: to save their own lives at the cost of killing their father or to be killed." In January, prosecutors instructed investigators to reclassify the charge as the necessary defence.
Activists held actions in support of the Khachaturyan sisters in Armenia and Moscow, as well as in Barcelona, Brussels, Berlin, New York, and other cities around the world. The activists demanded to release the girls and take measures against domestic violence. The Khachaturyan sisters were also supported by Armenian human rights defenders and cultural professionals.
