Bataysk colony boss suspected of exploiting prisoners

The acting head of the correctional colony located in the Rostov Region forced a relative of an inmate to buy building materials, and the inmates – to make repairs in the colony in exchange of more comfortable custody conditions, the Regional Prosecutor's Office (PO) has informed.

According to investigators, for three years, the acting colony boss forced one of the convicts and his relative to buy building materials and tools in order to make repairs of the colony premises.

In total, the inmate's relative bought the building materials worth over 235,000 roubles, the PO of the Rostov Region wrote in its website on July 6.

Later, other inmates were involved in this scheme; and in exchange of the repair works, the colony boss provided them with more comfortable custody conditions. "The Bataysk City PO had approved the indictment in a criminal case against <...>, accused of committing a crime under Part 1, Article 28 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of service powers)," the PO has noted.
