Arrest of KChR complainants of torture extended
A court in Cherkessk, the capital of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), has left three residents of the city of Teberda accused of illegal arms dealing, in custody. Their relatives wrote complaints about law enforcers, who had taken the detainees for several days to Chechnya.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 14, in Cherkessk, about 20 people went to a protest action to the government house of the KChR, but policemen dispersed them. The protesters demanded to allow advocates to visit the three residents of Teberda, claiming that they had been were tortured. A relative of one of the protesters said that the law enforcers not only tortured the detainees, but also planted weapons on them.
The court extended the arrest of Adam Djukkaev, Muradin Laipanov and Taulan Golaev for another month, said Adei Djukkaev, a brother of one of them. According to his story, shortly after detention, law enforcers took the detainees to Chechnya, explaining this by the need to check some operative information.
Adei Djukkaev insists that his brother and other detainees are forced to testify against other Teberda residents. He has added that, after he began searching for his detained brother, he was summoned to one of power structures.
