Volgograd resident accused of killing a student because of national hatred
Vitaly Vasiliev, a resident of Volgograd, faces a life sentence for the murder of Timur Gavrilov, a student from Azerbaijan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Azerbaijani native Timur Gavrilov, a student of the medical university, was killed at night on June 13. The victim got about 20 stab wounds. The suspect – Vitaly Vasiliev, a 22-year-old resident of Volgograd, – has been arrested. The young man does not deny his involvement in the murder.
Today, at a briefing, Vasily Semenov, the chief of the Investigating Department for the Volgograd Region of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), Vitaly Vasiliev has been charged under Article "National hatred murder". Vitaly Vasiliev faces a life sentence, Vasily Semenov notes.
Earlier, a source has reported that acquaintances of Vitaly Vasiliev, who handed him over to investigators, claimed that he was a member of an organization engaged in cultivating hatred towards people of other nationalities.
At the briefing, Alexander Kravchenko, the chief of the Department for the Volgograd Region of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), has announced that no nationalist groupings have been detected in Volgograd. "However, it is a fact that he (Vitaly Vasiliev, – note of the 'Caucasian Knot') was reading relevant materials and was loading them from the Internet. He shared his opinion with one person. They found a common language, and that person became the suspect's associate," Alexander Kravchenko reported.
