Abkhazia opens border for three days to return its residents from Georgia

For the period from June 22 to June 24, 2020, Abkhazia opens a humanitarian corridor for the return of residents of the republic who temporarily stay in Georgia. Only employees of the "IngurGES" HPP (hydroelectric power plant) and representatives of international organizations will be allowed to use the humanitarian corridor to cross the border from Georgia to Abkhazia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier, the authorities of Abkhazia temporarily opened the border for the period from May 26 to May 31 to let local residents return home after receiving medical treatment in Georgia. All people entering Abkhazia are placed under quarantine for two weeks.

On June 22, Abkhazia opened a corridor to let residents of the republic temporarily staying in Georgia return home through the "Ingur" border checkpoint. The checkpoint will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time every day until June 24. All residents of Abkhazia arriving from Georgia will be obliged to undergo the health monitoring control, the State Security Service of Abkhazia reports.

According to Rustam Latipov, the head of the border unit of the State Security Service of Abkhazia, a lot of residents of the republic and people who have a residence permit for the Gali District still stay in the territory of Georgia. Rustam Latipov has also added that only employees of the "IngurGES" HPP and representatives of international organizations are allowed to enter Abkhazia from Georgia.
