Court releases ex-President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan on bail

Robert Kocharyan, the second President of Armenia, will be released after his discharge from the medical centre. The sum of the bail of 2 billion drams (about 289 million roubles) was treated by Kocharyan's advocate as unprecedented.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 29, a court in Armenia granted the defence's request that Kocharyan remain in the medical centre until the end of the coronavirus pandemic.

By June 17, the number of coronavirus infected patients in Armenia reached 18,033.

Earlier, the court had rejected three petitions at once – on Kocharyan's release under the guarantee of three ex-prime ministers of Armenia and Karabakh; on release from custody due to the coronavirus threat; and on release on bail.
