Dagestani resident sentenced for involvement in terrorist organization

A court found a resident of Dagestan to be a member of the "Imarat Kavkaz", a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, and sentenced him to 14 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony, the press service of the court in Rostov-on-Don reported.

Magomedamin Gadjiev was also found guilty of participating in an illegal armed formation (IAF) on the territory of a foreign state and in illegal crossing of the Russian border.

According to the case materials, in February 2014, in the Syrian city of Atma, Magomedamin Gadjiev joined the "Imarat Kavkaz". Until early April of 2014, Magomedamin Gadjiev guarded a militant training camp and other facilities of the "Imarat Kavkaz". In the period from April 30 to May 6, 2019, he illegally crossed the border between Russia and Georgia and was detained.

The defendant pleaded guilty to illegal crossing of the border. However, he denies his participation in terrorist organizations and in the combat actions in Syria.

    Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov and Kemal Tambiev, who are waiting for consideration of their appeal complaints against verdicts, have been transferred from the Novocherkassk SIZO (pre-trial prison) to the Grozny one, Gadjiev's wife has reported, while one of Gadjiev's colleagues has added that his solo picket in Gadjiev's support sparked interest among passers-by in Makhachkala.
