Two men sentenced for attack on Nalchik to get compensations due to ECtHR

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) obliged the Russian authorities to pay the compensations to Batyr Pshibiev and Aslan Berov. Each complainant is to get 13,000 euros. Over 10 years of the investigation in the case on the attack on Nalchik, the defendants were not allowed to get a single long visit of their relatives.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the trial in the case on the attack on Nalchik lasted from 2008 to 2014. Five out of 56 defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment. Many convicts complained to the ECtHR about torture, violation of the right to freedom, and an unfair trial.

On June 9, the European Court of Human Rights pronounced a decision in the case of "Batyr Pshibiev and Aslan Berov vs. Russia". The European Court found the violation of Article 8 of the Convention on Human Rights (the right to respect for private and family life) in the fact that Batyr Pshibiev and Aslan Berov were refused long visits of their relatives for almost 10 years in a SIZO (pre-trial prison) under investigation and court, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told today by Rustam Matsev, an advocate from the project "Legal Initiative".

According to the ECtHR's decision, the Russian authorities are to pay the compensations to Batyr Pshibiev and Aslan Berov, and each of them is to get 13,000 euros.
