CTO in Sunzha was this year's third one conducted in Ingushetia

On May 30, the Ingush operative headquarters announced the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime in Sunzha, where a shootout broke out. According to law enforcers, the militants' shelter was taken by storm. Two militants were killed during the CTO, law enforcement sources said.

The casualties have been identified, the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) has reported on its website; however, without naming them. Law enforcers believe that they had intended to commit a number of terrorist crimes in the republic.

The May 30 armed incident was the third since the start of 2020 in Ingushetia, and the sixth one within the last 12 months, since May 2019. Moreover, in 2019, four armed incidents took place in the region.

On May 13, across the Assa River in the Sunzha District, law enforcers began operative-search actions and warned local villagers against visiting the area under the operation. Law enforcers are looking in the forests for a group of militants headed by Aslan Byutukaev (Amir Khamzat), who is considered the organizer of the attack on Grozny in 2014 and was involved in a terror act at the Domodedovo Airport in 2011, sources reported. The results of these special actions were not reported. On March 4, in the village of Alkun, Sunzha District, a man was killed in a special operation, presumably a visitor from Dagestan. According to law enforcers, he had weapons, foodstuffs and a sleeping bag on him. No one suffered during that special operation.
