Seven residents of Karachay-Cherkessia detained in arms trafficking case
Seven residents of Karachay-Cherkessia were detained on suspicion of firearms trafficking. An underground workshop was organized in a house of one of the suspects, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reports today.
The detention was preceded by a control purchase of firearms by the police. Seven pistols, a carbine, and "two objects of design similar to Makarov pistols, were purchased from the suspects, the spokesperson for the Russian MIA reported.
Then, in the house of one of the suspects in the village of Uchkeken, the police found a workshop for the transformation and manufacture of firearms, the TASS reports today with reference to the Russian MIA.
A criminal case was instituted under the article "Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons, their main parts, ammunition" and the article "Illegal manufacture of weapons". Under the first of the above articles, the suspects from the organized grouping face up to six years of imprisonment, and under the second article – up to seven years of imprisonment. Three out of the seven detainees were taken into custody, one is under house arrest, the rest are at liberty on recognizance not leave, the "Interfax" reports with reference to the Russian MIA.
