Dagestani Muftiate urges believers to mark Eid al-Fitr at home

Because of the difficult situation with coronavirus in Dagestan, the republic's Muftiate has invited Muslims to celebrate the Eid al-Fitr (Uraza Bayram, or end of fasting) within their families. Believers are advised not to invite guests, not to visit cemeteries, and observe the self-isolation regime.

This year's Eid al-Fitr falls on May 24; and the month of Ramadan lasts from April 24 to May 23. During Ramadan, Muslims should refrain from eating and drinking during the daylight hours. The "Guide" section of the "Caucasian Knot" contains reference material on the Ramadan.

"Undoubtedly, we all want to spend this festival by congratulating and visiting each other, as we have used to do on this blessed day. Unfortunately, with the threat of a dangerous virus, this is impossible, because the raging disease has already claimed many lives of our brothers and sisters. The republic's Muftiate is categorically insisting and urging all the believers to observe the self-isolation regime on the Eid al-Fitr holiday," Shamil Alikhanov, the Chairman of the Dagestani Muftiate, wrote in his Instagram page yesterday.

He has urged believers not to invite guests for the holiday, not to visit cemeteries and to administer the holiday prayers at home.
