Residents of Georgia mark May 9 under restrictions and bans

Residents of Georgia celebrate Victory Day amid restrictions associated both with coronavirus and political motives. The country's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has reminded about the ban to use of communist and fascist symbols; and the authorities, due to the epidemic, have limited visits to crowded places. The residents of Tbilisi interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have noted that May 9 is a sacred holiday.

It was reported that Abkhazia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the regions of Southern Russia had cancelled mass events on May 9 due to coronavirus.

On May 9, Vitaly, a resident of Tbilisi, used to visit the park, where war veterans traditionally gathered. His family members always laid the table for the holiday, but after the death of his father, the tradition was lost.

Other townspeople have also regretted about the inability to go to the park on May 9. Nino, a Tbilisi woman, said that her family used to congratulate every year the war veterans who gathered in the park, but this year could not do it.

In the family of Nikolai Kukudjanov, the chief surgeon of the Crimean Front, traditionally, the Victory Day was widely celebrated, with invitation of guests, but after his death, the family marks this day within a narrow family circle.
