Sources report Stavropol official detained in Spain

Andrei Murga, a former deputy chairman of the government of the Stavropol Territory, who had been on the international wanted list, has been detained in Spain; the issue of his extradition to Russia is being decided, sources have informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January 2019, Andrei Murga was suspected of embezzling 3.5 million roubles allocated to finalize the website intended to promote the products of Stavropol Territory manufacturers. In June 2019, he was put on the international wanted list and arrested in absentia.

On May 1, the Spanish Civil Guard announced on its website that it had detained a former State Duma MP, who had earlier been a deputy head of the regional government in Russia. The name of the detainee was not specified in the statement. The "El Mundo" Spanish newspaper has specified the law enforcers had detained in Alicante Andrei Murga, suspected of fraud (the translation is made by the "Caucasian Knot").

Spain has notified Russia of the detention of Andrei Murga, who had been on the international wanted list, "to resolve the issue of his extradition," the TASS has quoted its law enforcement source as saying.
