Azerbaijan claims shelling of two villages in conflict zone

During the last 24 hours, positions of Azerbaijani troops stationed in the villages on the border with Armenia and in the conflict zone with the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) were shelled for 24 times, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 28, the Azerbaijani MoD announced 23 attacks on the positions of its troops during the past 24 hours; the day earlier, the MoD reported 25 ceasefire violations in the conflict zone.

"During the last 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire in various sections of the frontline for 24 times," the Azerbaijani MoD has stated in its website today.

The Azerbaijani positions stationed in the villages of Geyali and Zamanli of the Gadabay District were shelled; fire was also delivered from the territories "near the occupied villages," the MoD has stated.

As of 9:00 a.m. Moscow time today, the MoDs of Armenia and NKR had not commented on this statement in their websites.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.
