Head of Dagestani village complains about absence of medicines and doctors

The death toll from pneumonia in the village of Tebekmakhi in the Akushinsky District of Dagestan has gone up sharply, almost a third of villagers are sick, but there is not enough medicines and qualified medical help, Medjid Medjidov, the head of the village of Tebekmakhi, said in his appeal to the authorities of Dagestan.

A video clip with his appeal was posted on April 28 on the official page of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly on the Instagram.

"Now, 2650 people live in the village, including 770 pensioners. Over 1000 of them suffer from a catarrhal viral disease. 23 of them are in grave condition and placed in the central district hospital; other 65 villagers are on outpatient treatment," Mr Medjidov has stated, adding that in March and April, 12 people died, most of them, eight persons, died over the past seven days; all who died were older than 60. "Two persons die per day. It's very hard to bear." Earlier, some 15-17 people died in per year in the village, he has noted.

According to the village head, the reason for the high mortality is in the deficit of drugs and the absence of medics to treat this disease and X-ray equipment.
