Special operation near Baksan becomes first in Kabardino-Balkaria within 13 months

A shootout between law enforcers and militants near the village of Kremenchug-Konstantinovskoye became the first armed incident in Kabardino-Balkaria in 2020. According to the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot", no special operations to prevent terror acts have been carried out in the republic since February 2019.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that law enforcers tried to detain three suspects in the Baksan District. All three suspects were killed in the course of the shootout. At the place of the shootout, FSB agents found weapons and an improvised explosive device (IED).

The recent similar armed incident occurred in Nalchik on February 27, 2019. Law enforcers then blocked a private house, and three persons were killed in a shootout. The special operation frightened residents of the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria.

No shootouts occurred in Kabardino-Balkaria since April 3, 2019, when policemen who tried to stop a car for inspection were shelled on the Blagoveshchensk-Prokhladnoye highway. According to the law enforcement bodies, the killed suspects were involved in the "Islamic State" (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the "Caucasian Knot").

In 2019, 10 people, including a law enforcer, fell victim to the armed conflict in Kabardino-Balkaria.
