Azerbaijani activist Yagublu detained on suspicion of hooliganism

Tofig Yagublu, an activist of the "Musavat" Party, has staged a traffic accident and attacked a family couple, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has explained the detention of the activist. Mr Yagublu himself treats himself as a victim of a provocation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 19, 2019, Yagublu was arrested for 30 days after an oppositional rally in Baku. After his release, he spoke about the beatings by law enforcers and threats demanding to stop his oppositional activities.

On March 22, law enforcers detained Yagublu again, his daughter, Nigyar Khazi, has informed.

"My father allegedly had collided with another car and used force against a man and his wife who were in it. My father treats the case as a fabricated one," Ms Khazi asserts.

The "Musavat" Party has written on the Facebook that it treats the Yagublu's detention as "a provocation aimed to execute a political order against him."

Ali Kerimli, a member of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) and the head of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), also believes that Tofig Yagublu's detention was politically motivated.
