Russian Embassy gets interested in Tumso's attempt case

The Chechen blogger, Tumso Abdurakhmanov, has stated that after the assassination attempt on him, he expects no change in the position of Swedish authorities, who refused to provide him with political asylum. The Russian Embassy has asked Sweden to organize a telephone conversation with the Russians detained under the assassination attempt case on Tumso, committed in the city of Gävle.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 6, the Swedish Prosecutor's Office announced the detention of a 30-year-old Russian woman as a possible accomplice to the attack on Tumso. According to Teresa Stensson, a Swedish prosecutor, one of the considered versions of the crime is "an order from Russia."

Russian diplomats are trying to establish contact with the Russian detainees under the assassination attempt case, Dmitry Krylov, the press officer of the Russian Embassy in Sweden, has informed.

The blogger himself believes that in solving this crime, investigators should cooperate both with the German authorities investigating the murder of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, and with the French police investigating the attempt on Mansur Aliev.

Since August 2019, two opponents of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, were assassinated in the European Union. On August 23, 2019, Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a participant in the second Chechen military campaign, was shot dead in Berlin; and Imran Aliev, a native of Chechnya, known as the blogger Mansur Stary, was killed in the French city of Lille in January 2020.

For many years, the Swedish human rights community had been informing local authorities about the risks posed to asylum seekers from Chechnya, said Michael Runey, a Swedish employee of the Eurasian programme of the "Civil Rights Defenders".
