Makhi Idrisov's case indicates problem of extradition from Chechnya

Chechnya could become a place where Makhi Idrisov, who escaped from house arrest in Makhachkala, is hiding, said Svetlana Gannushkina, a human rights defender. Earlier, suspects of involvement in high-profile crimes and put on the wanted list had already hid in Chechnya. At least in one case, an attempt to detain such person triggered threats from Kadyrov to open fire at law enforcers from other regions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Idrisov was detained in September 2019. During searches, law enforcers found weapons on him and placed Idrisov under house arrest. In February, he escaped from investigators. His escape reminded about his links with Chechen authorities.

Svetlana Gannushkina, the chair of the "Civic Assistance" Committee, has admitted that Idrisov could hide in Chechnya by using the patronage of the republic's authorities.

Let us remind you that Chechnya had already sheltered those wanted under criminal cases. Lecha Bogatyryov, suspected of involvement in the murder Umar Israilov, a Chechen native, in Vienna, may be hiding in Chechnya, as well as a former adviser to the head of Chechnya, Shaa Turlaev, a figurant in the same Israilov's murder case and in the murder of Ruslan Yamadaev in Moscow, and several others.

Ruslan Mukhudinov, accused of involvement in the murder of Boris Nemtsov, a politician, and Ruslan Geremeev, a suspect in the same case, could also find refuge in Chechnya. Investigators consider Mukhudinov to be the customer of Nemtsov's murder.
