CEC partially satisfies blogger Mekhman Guseinov's complaint
Mekhman Guseinov, a blogger, insisted on cancellation of registration of Faradj Guliev, his rival at parliamentary elections, but the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan has only made a warning and decided to wait for the outcome of the investigation initiated by the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the blogger, Mekhman Guseinov, had accused the above Faradj Guliev, the head of the "National Revival Movement" Party, of an attempt to cancel through a bribe his candidacy for the February 9 early parliamentary elections.
Mr Guseinov's complaint was examined by the CEC on February 5.
According to Mekhman Guseinov, the CEC restricted itself just by issuing a warning to Guliev.
"I was told that since the GPO is investigating the case, they will wait for the decision thereof. However, it's unknown for how long the GPO will be busy with the case, while there are several days left until the voting day. It is unacceptable for a person, who has committed a frankly corrupt act and actions that undermine the integrity of the election process, to go on running for an MP seat. I’ll file an appeal complaint against the CEC's decision," Mr Guseinov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The press service of the CEC has confirmed to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Guliev had been warned.
