Ali Kerimli demands from Azerbaijani MIA to issue passport for him

Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has filed a claim to the Baku Administrative Court. In his claim, the politician asks the court to oblige the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to issue a passport for him.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2006, when a passport of Ali Kerimli expired, the MIA refused to issue a new passport for him. The MIA's refusal was explained by a criminal case of 1994 opened against the PFPA leader. On January 16, 2009, Ali Kerimli sent a complaint against Azerbaijan to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). On July 16, 2015, the ECtHR found a violation of the Ali Kerimli's rights to freedom of movement and awarded him compensation in the amount of 8600 euros. On November 10, 2016, the politician's defence claimed the Azerbaijan's failure to comply with the decision pronounced by the ECtHR. The country's authorities have not yet issued a new passport for Ali Kerimli, states the international human rights organization "Human Rights Watch" (HRW) in its report released in January.

Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, has filed a lawsuit against the MIA of Azerbaijan because of its refusal to issue a passport him for 14 years, the news agency "Turan" reported on January 27.

The politician requests the Baku Administrative Court to oblige the MIA to issue a passport for him. At the Baku Administrative Court, the case will be considered by Judge Elvin Aliev, the agency "Turan" reports.
