Azerbaijani activist Dashgyn Agalarov detained in Poland
Dashgyn Agalarov, who was granted political asylum in Norway and who collaborates with the "Turan" TV Company, was detained at the airport of Gdansk. The Azerbaijani authorities continue to hunt dissidents even outside the country, declares Fikret Guseinli, a presenter of the "Turan" TV Company.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2014, Dashgyn Agalarov, a member of the "National Council of Democratic Forces" (NCDF) of Azerbaijan, was arrested in Georgia at a request from Azerbaijan. He was charged with tax evasion. Six months later, Dashgyn Agalarov was released, but in May 2017, he was ordered to leave Georgia within a month.
"For the last three years, I have been living in Norway, where I was granted political asylum. On December 26, I left Norway and toured four countries. When I was completing my trip and returning back, I was detained in Gdansk. They are going to extradite or deport me to Azerbaijan," Dashgyn Agalarov said.
"The Azerbaijani authorities continue to hunt for political migrants. Two years ago, I myself was detained in Ukraine at a request filed by Azerbaijan to Interpol. The intervention of the Netherland government where I was granted citizenship and the European Union helped me to escape the extradition and arrest in Baku. If Dashgyn Agalarov is extradited to Baku, he will face arrest and imprisonment. We have already called on international human rights organizations to influence the government of Poland to prevent the deportation of Dashgyn Agalarov," said Fikret Guseinli, a presenter of the "Turan" TV Channel.
