Brother of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili shot dead in Berlin reports received execution threats

Zurab Khangoshvili, a brother of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a native of the Pankisi Gorge, who was shot dead in Berlin, has received information about the threat to his life. Fears for his life were also expressed by his sister.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the suspected killer of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili was transferred to a maximum security prison in Berlin because of concerns about his safety. The alleged Khangoshvili's killer served at the FSB Special Forces, The Insider, Bellingcat and Der Spiegel wrote in their journalistic investigation.

"I was asked to be careful; I don't go out alone," the Times quotes Zurab Khangoshvili, a brother of the assassinated Zelimkhan, as saying.

Zeinab, their sister, has noted that Zelimkhan had not contacted with the Chechens living in Berlin.

"In order to understand who's done it, we should consider who benefits from this crime. Is it beneficial to Russia and Germany? Obviously, not," said Waldemar Gerdt, a member of the Bundestag international committee from the "Alternative for Germany" Party, the "Izvestia" reports.

Let us remind you that after the Khangoshvili's murder, members of the Chechen Diaspora in Europe linked it with Russian special services. Zelimkhan Khangoshvili was a field commander during the Chechen war, said Ali Viskhadjiev, Director of the NGO named "Kavkazder".

The persecution of Khangoshvili had to do with "his participation in the second Chechen military campaign as a commander," Ekkehard Maas, the head of the German-Caucasian Society in Berlin, has suggested earlier.
