SC refuses to return case of Dagestanis killed in Chechnya to prosecutor

The Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has disagreed with advocates, who to investigators' violation, and refused to return the case of eight residents of Dagestan, who had been declared killed in a shootout with law enforcers, to the prosecutor.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that human rights defenders failed to achieve the consideration of the above case in Dagestan. The final refusal was announced by the Russia's SC on September 19. In October, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) registered a complaint about an inefficient inquiry into the case, violation of the right to life and the prohibition of torture.

According to relatives, eight Dagestanis were kidnapped in late September-early October 2016, and then assassinated. Law enforcers assert that they had been preparing a terror act and perished in a shootout. They are trying to convince parents and the public that "the young people had kidnapped themselves and then organized an armed raid into the neighbouring republic aiming to commit attacks and terror acts," experts have noted.
