Armenia resumes housing programme for refugees eleven years later

The Armenian government has decided to issue certificates for purchase of housing to families of refugees from Azerbaijan. In total, 112 families will receive them. This is the first authorities' decision in 11 years, which will help to solve the housing problem of at least a small part of the refugees.

According to the government' decision, the certificates are valid for one year, during which they must buy their housing. The certificates will be issued in stages. The decision was announced during the sitting, which was broadcast on the YouTube channel.

The certificates will be awarded to the refugees who have received the Armenian citizenship. The government has allocated 1,492,000,000 drams for the programme. Each family participating therein will receive 13,321,428 drams.

Let us note here that the decision will affect a small part of the refugees in need of housing. Thus, at the sitting, it was noted that in Armenia there are 2589 refugee families, who need housing; of them, 1070 families live in Yerevan; and the rest 1519 ones – in the country's regions.

The draft government's resolution was submitted by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. The certificates are such so that the families could buy their housing at an "average price," Irine Akopyan, the head of the division for integration matters of the Migration Service, explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
