Advocate points to differences in cases of Maisigov and other Ingush activists

Rashid Maisigov was among opponents of the Chechen-Ingush border agreement, but unlike the arrested activists, he did not take part in rallies, Magomed Aushev, an advocate, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 19, the defence convinced the court of appeal to transfer Rashid Maisigov to house arrest. The court ruling in relation of Maisigov gives hope that persecutions of other participants in Ingush protests will be stopped, said Magomed Mutsolgov, the head of the "Mashr" human rights organization.

The transfer of Rashid Maisigov from the SIZO (pre-trial prison) to house arrest is due to the fact that there were no proofs of the journalist's direct participation in the protests of opponents of the Chechen-Ingush border agreement, said Magomed Aushev, an advocate.

"Other detainees were active protest participants, which was fixed by video records; while Maisigov did not directly participate in the actions," Mr Aushev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his version, those who believe that the decision on Maisigov will affect the fate of the rest of the detained Ingush activists, "give the wish for the reality." "Because the cases of other oppositionists have completely different situations," said Magomed Aushev.
