Dagestan: law enforcers refuse detaining parishioners of "Tangim" Mosque

The law enforcers, who are regularly conducting raids in the vicinity of the "Tangim" Mosque in Makhachkala, stopped detaining believers. Instead, they write down their personal data and that of the drivers moving in their cars near the mosque. Then, they are called to police stations and persuaded not to attend the mosque, which is considered to be a "Salafi" one, the local believers report.

Another raid was conducted at the "Tangim" Mosque on November 15. Policemen stopped the parishioners leaving the mosque after their Friday prayer and recorded their personal data.

Idris Yusupov, a journalist, has noted that law enforcers did not lose interest in the mosque; they have just changed their tactics and conduct no more detentions.

Mr Yusupov has added that recently the number of law enforcers participating in raids has increased significantly – up to 60 law enforcers instead of earlier 30.

The journalist has stressed that the mosque leaders are ready to cooperate.

According to Magomed, a parishioner, law enforcers exhibit less rudeness; he has added that he is under the so-called "prophylactic registration" for more than three years.
