Protest against Armenian Minister of Education turns into a sedentary picket

Today, opposition activists and students on strike have gathered in front of the Armenian government building with the demand for the resignation of Araik Arutyunyan, Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports. After the minister has refused to come out to the protesters, about 70 of them started a sedentary picket.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 4, the youth wing of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" demanded the resignation of Araik Arutyunyan, Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports. On November 6, young activists of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" held a protest rally. They demanded from Araik Arutyunyan not to attend a government meeting on the other day.

Today, the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" activists have come to the government building with posters reading: "No anti-national grants" and "Leave with honour!" The activists started chanting: "Araik, go away!" Students who started their strike on November 6 also joined the activists. The protesters demanded a meeting with Minister Araik Arutyunyan, but the minister did not come out to meet them. The activists began chanting "Shame!" They accused Araik Arutyunyan of ignoring the students' opinion.

The protesters failed to get closer to the entrance to the building of the Ministry of Education because of the cordon arranged by the police. To express their protest, the activists sat down on the steps.

According to the police, in total, more than 250 people take part in the rally, and of them, about 70 activists have started a sedentary picket, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
