Azerbaijani law enforcers kill a man on Iranian border

A resident of Azerbaijan was killed while trying to illegally return to the country from Iran with drugs and weapons; two more people were detained, the Azerbaijani State Border Service (SBS) has informed.

The incident occurred at night on November 3 in the service territory of the "Geiteper" outpost near the village of Bilyasuvar. A frontier outfit saw a man trying to enter the territory of Azerbaijan. He ignored the border guards' demand to stop, and, after they fired a warning shot in the air, tried to run towards Iran. Then, the law enforcers opened fire to kill. "The intruder died on the spot from received wound," the Azerbaijani SBS has stated.

In the casualty's bag, law enforcers found drugs and weapons. A resident of Bilyasuvar and a resident of Mingachevir, who were waiting for the intruder in a Niva car, were detained as suspects. The casualty was a resident of the Jalilabad District of Azerbaijan, says the statement posted of the website of the SBS, translated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the SBS, the casualty had entered Iran on October 31 through the Bilyasuvar border checkpoint.
