Dispute with Arab Sheikh's grandson forces Chechen authorities to self-justify

The lost dispute with the grandson of the Saudi Sheikh led to the fact that Adam Shakhidov had to explain Ramzan Kadyrov's threats addressed against Wahhabis. The head of Chechnya himself decided to strengthen religious work in the republic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 17, Salikh Ibn Baz, a grandson of the former Mufti of Saudi Arabia, accused Kadyrov of suppressing Wahhabis, since the head of Chechnya had declared Wahhabism as contrary to the Koran and the Sunna. Adam Shakhidov, the Kadyrov's religious adviser, has joined the dispute, but failed to convincingly challenge the grandson's arguments and invited Ibn Baz to Chechnya, but the latter refused and stated his contempt for Kadyrov.

After the dispute, the Chechen TV broadcasting in the Arabic language launched a project intended to prove the correctness of the religious policy conducted in Chechnya, the "Kavkaz.Realii" has reported.

"We've raised the banner of Islam and called for moderation through manifestation of mercy and love. And then people began choosing Chechnya as the place to adopt Islam," says a comment to the video posted on the TV channel's Facebook page.

In one of his latest video appeals, Adam Shakhidov has stated that Kadyrov had "built a new Muslim history for the Chechen people," and that "there has never been such an Islamic revival in Chechnya." "People are rejoicing; they pray in mosques, study Sharia sciences and do charitable deeds," Mr Shakhidov has stated.
