Two oppositional activists detained in Baku

Ruslan Amirov and Alizamin Salaev, activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), were detained by several men and taken away to some unknown place, the PFPA has informed.

"Eight to nine men in civilian clothes broke into the apartment, where Amirov and Salaev were staying. They broke the door and took the activists to some unknown destination ... Their cell phones are disconnected," Gezyal Bairamly, Deputy Chair of the PFPA told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The party treats the detention as politically motivated and associates it with the upcoming oppositional rally in Baku.

On October 19, 2019, law enforcers dispersed in Baku an unsanctioned action, announced by the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) and the PFPA. The Baku Police reported 60 detainees, 42 of whom were released after receiving warnings. The actions of the Azerbaijani authorities were criticized by the Council of Europe, the European External Relations Service, the PACE and the US Embassy to Azerbaijan.
