Oppositionist detained on eve of rally in Baku

An activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) was detained in front of the courthouse before the consideration of an appeal filed against the arrest of rally participant Abdullah Makhmudov. The PFPA associates the detention of its activist with the preparation of a new rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 19, in Baku, law enforcers dispersed participants of an unsanctioned protest rally organized by the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) and the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA). The Baku police reported about 60 detainees, 42 of whom were released after a warning conversation. Abdullah Makhmudov was arrested for 30 days.

Today, a group of activists has gathered in front of the courthouse in Baku, reports Zafar Akhmedov, a member of the Coordination Centre for Political Prisoners' Families. According to him, people in civilian clothes approached Emin Manyev, captured him, and forced him into their car.

Gezyal Bairamly, the PFPA's chairperson, associates the detention of Emin Manyev with the opposition's plans to hold another rally on November 2.
