Armenian journalists condemn attack on "Mirror" editorial office
The activists, who threw eggs at the editorial office of the "Hayeli" (Mirror) portal, were released on recognizance not to leave, the Armenia's Investigating Committee (IC) has reported. The country's journalist organizations have condemned the attack and demanded from the authorities and the opposition to persuade their supporters to be restrained and tolerant.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 5, in Armenia, the editorial office of the "Hayeli" portal was bombarded with eggs. In this way, the attackers expressed their dissatisfaction with the edition's citing the statement of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev about the ownership of Nagorno-Karabakh.
On October 8, a source from the press service of the Armenia's IC told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that four activists figure in the case as suspects.
"All the four were released on recognizance not to leave," the source said.
Nine Armenian journalistic organizations have condemned the attack. In a statement circulated on October 7 (a copy is available at the "Caucasian Knot"), journalists treated "the actions that impede or suppress the right to the freedom of expression as unacceptable."
The journalistic organizations have demanded from the authorities and oppositional political forces to urge their supporters to be restrained and tolerant towards those who express different opinions and viewpoints.
